Teeth Whitening for Beginners
None of us want to end up like Ross Geller in that episode of ‘Friends’ – startling a would-be lover witless with insane, glow-in-the-dark teeth. If you want a whiter smile, the best advice is to consult your dental surgeon – although you can expect to part with upwards of £700 for effective treatment if you do.
The more powerful tooth-bleaching products, unless precisely fitted in bespoke dental trays, can leach into the gums causing serious blistering, and can pool in badly fitting trays, eroding the enamel (it takes considerable skill to make a bespoke tray). If you’re simply seeking a little ‘lift’ as opposed to Hollywood dazzle, tooth-whitening toothpaste won’t bleach but will remove stains, especially if you use an electric toothbrush. One of the better tooth-bleaching products, because of its low acidity, is the ‘Whiter than White Two-Step Programme’ – but you still need an accurately-made dental tray. And hold back on the coffee and red wine!
