If you like your radar detectors compact and unobtrusive, how about trying the world’s smallest GPS radar detector? The Micro Fuzion Speed Camera Warning System may be a tiddler, but it’s packed with excellent features.

It keeps constant track of your whereabouts through its GPS satellite technology, comparing it against its up-to-the moment database of the whereabouts of known police cameras and speed traps. Not only does it have an impressively sharp LCD display, but it also provides voice alerts, giving you plenty of time to ‘make the necessary adjustments’, as it were.

And what’s more is that the highly sensitive SIRF III GPS technology it uses is completely legal. Retailing at just $170, it supplies free camera updates for life, and you can safely use it for camera detection not just in the UK but in Australia, the USA and most of Europe. And for an extra $75, you can add a laser pack which detects police radar and laser guns.

E Radar Speed Camera Detector with Multi-filtering System

We all know that insensitive radar detectors will only alert us to speed camera signals when it’s too late. But there are other disadvantages, too. If your radar detector is either a radar dim-wit or so hyper-sensitive that it keeps bleating away ceaselessly, sending you false alarm after false alarm, it might be time to consider a more reliable alternative. E Radar’s Speed Camera Detector may be just what you’re looking for.

Its multi-layer filtering system allows it to be both ultra-sensitive to radar scatter and intelligently discriminating. It has a full 360˚ range at all times, so that it can sense a signal at whatever angle it impinges on you. It detects all – truly, all – radar band widths used by the UK police and delivers extra-early warning signals, too. It can detect Gatso cameras from over 200 metres, and laser and radar guns from over two miles. Currently retailing at a bargain price of around $180, it’s a techno-peach.

For everyone who has a respect for the rule of law and drives safely but resents being used for crude revenue raising, the Escort PASSPORT 9500ix is the answer to your driving prayers. Not only does it offer laser, safety camera and speed trap detection, it also boasts variable-speed radar awareness and GPS.

The Escort senses all five of the operating bands (X-, K-, Ka- and Ku-, as well as Laser 904nm) and, if you’re approaching an overzealous traffic cop, it’s instantly detachable so you can sling it under your seat without blinking. And the superb ‘Auto-learn’ feature uses GPS technology to sense and remember where all the false alarms are just by passing them a mere three times. Not only this, but the device receives regular updates from the Escort website. It’s just a tad expensive (retailing at around $350), but it ain’t half good.

The Snooper Laser Star Jammer with 904nm Laser Pulse

January 15, 2010 BY

Snooper Laser Star Jammer with 904nm Laser Pulse

You’re listening to the radio as you cruise along, the sun is shining and everything’s just dandy until … a policeman zaps you with a hand held laser speed detector and your benevolence bubble bursts: you’re just over the speed limit.

If you’d had the excellent Snooper Laser Diffuser and Jammer in your car, this wouldn’t have happened. It works on the same 904nm wavelength used by police hand held and mobile van laser speed guns; not only will it give you both audial and visual warnings when it senses this wavelength, its ultra-fast microchip technology and Class 1 laser diode will instantaneously fire a matching wavelength back to the offending gun, confusing it sufficiently to let you find the brake peddle before it can record your speed.

The main sensor head is compactly designed for stealth install, and it’s just about the most cost effective laser jammer/diffuser on the market. Snoop past those laser guns today!

If you want a superb-all rounder in the speed detection field, you’d be hard-pressed to trump the excellent Easy Warning EW-5500. And the emphasis really is on the ‘all rounder’ bit – it has a 360-degree laser detector eye nestling in its specifications and it responds to virtually all radar guns.

You’ll get voice alerts as well as visual alerts if you accidentally slip into any of the those sneaky Detection Bands (X Band, K Band and Ka Band, as well as laser) and the high resolution LED screen also gives information on the strength of the signal you’re approaching.

It also has a snazzy ‘8-LED’ compass that displays, as its name suggests, 8 different directions. And it’s completely invisible to VG-2 detectors. Built for the US market, it works well in the UK, too, and its sturdy design manages to be pleasing on the eye and practical at the same time.

The price might make your eyes water (it’ll set you back $2500 for the basic kit and an extra $1000 for front and rear laser jamming; oh, and another $650 for side laser jamming – and you’ll have to get it installed) but the Stinger DSI is superb.

Using an advanced piece of kit called a Spectrum Analyser (which is used in F16 fighter jets) in place of the heterodyne antennae used in conventional detectors, it overcomes the false alarms and short range of the latter. You get guaranteed precision, and it’s invisible to radar detector detectors.

It even allows you to check the accuracy of police speed checks and will equip you with highly accurate proof to avoid being fined. The range of the radar detection is terrific, giving 15 seconds warning of a Gatso around a corner and up to 30 seconds on a straight stretch of road. Stuff those speed traps every time with a Stinger!

Is the Snooper 3ZERO GPS Radar Detector Even better than the Beltronics BEL RX65?

December 21, 2009 BY

Snooper 3ZERO GPS Radar Detector

This compact little tablet is one of the most comprehensive and sophisticated radar detectors on the market in its price range. The Snooper 3ZERO uses cutting-edge GPS technology to warn you – reliably and accurately – of all fixed speed traps like Truvelo and Gatso cameras, as well as those ‘average speed’ detectors so often found sneaking around at motorway junctions. But this new Snooper is the first one to combine GPS with radar and laser technology.

The laser detector is extraordinarily sensitive and will quickly give you advance warning of mobile laser guns up to one mile away from them. And, as Gatso cameras and hand held radar guns use radar beams to log how fast you’re moving, the 3ZERO is minutely sensitive to radar scatter from these instruments and will also let you know you’re approaching one up to a mile in advance. It even tells you whether a Gatso camera is live or just standing there asleep!

Beltronics Bel 966

It may not be the cheapest radar detector on the market at around $700 but it’s certainly one of the best. The Beltronics Bel 966 Radar/Laser Detector for cars is undoubtedly in the ‘top of the range’ bracket. But it’s a fine instrument.

Although designed for the UK market, it offers protection throughout Europe and is one of the most effective international speed trap detectors on the market. The device is hardwired into your vehicle and is far less obtrusive than those ugly boxes perched on dash-tops or stuck to the screen. The head

unit is no bigger than a matchbox and can sit neatly beneath your CD-radio. Despite its small size, it doesn’t compromise Beltronics award-winning detection technology in the slightest. Even if you have a motorbike, the 966 comes in a weatherproof version specifically designed for them. Stick one in the eye to crude revenue raising by never being caught in a speed trap again.

This ingenious little device needs no wires or computers to do its job – it uses a SIM instead, downloading any updates from the mobile phone network. You’ll get alerts for safety cameras and blackspots and the GPRS/GSM guarantees updates on camera locations across the UK every few minutes.

There’s a cool, full colour screen which you can customise, and a handy feature which tracks your whereabouts; in an emergency, rescue services or family and friends can no where you are in an instant. And for those of us with unreliable memories, it switches itself off automatically when not in use.

The alert system is pretty comprehensive to, letting you know about now only fixed cameras but mobile units, average speed camera zones, railway crossings, school areas, congestion charge zones. There’s even a fatigue warning. What more could you want?

An army of disgruntled drivers is amassing: law-abiding people who get hammered for driving a gnat’s whisker above the speed limit, usually because a mindless speed camera has snapped them as they reach 32 mph.

If you suspect that these mulishly intransigent robots are used more for revenue raising than for road safety, it’s time to invest in a good radar detector. The Beltronics BEL RX65 detects radar signals in less than 500 milliseconds, crucial if you want to avoid being zapped by the new instant-on and low-power radar guns.

Its advanced ‘AutoScan’ filter eliminates false alerts and its 360 degree multiple laser sensor continually searches for laser-gun signals. It covers all radar and laser frequencies in the UK and uses Kuband for European travel. You’ll get clear voice alerts, so you can keep your eyes on the road, not on the unit, and with Beltronics Shadow Technology, it even detects radar detector detectors! A real blow to ‘Robo-Cameras’ everywhere.
