By clinging to its Symbian Operating System too ardently, Nokia began to slip a little in the popularity stakes last year. But it has come back fighting with the superb Nokia N900.
This slightly tubby looking little chap uses the new Maemo 5 OS and works a treat. Don’t be misled by the chunky appearance, which is a consequence of including a slide-out manual QWERTY keypad. The keypad is actually excellent and comfortable to use, and the phone’s 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics is way better than that used in the iPhone 3GS.
That said, the smooth, glossy, fuller figure grows on you in the folded mode. It comes with WiFi, quadband GPS, A-GPS and although the 3.2 inch touch screen is resistive rather than capacitative (like iPhone), it works superbly. The Facebook widget even amends your updates in real time and watching videos on the 800 x 400 screen is a pleasure. As, in fact, is the whole phone.
