Outwell Fan Heater

For the all-weather camper, there is one piece of kit that you are sure to want to take on your trip. The Outwell fan heater is one of the few portable heaters that are specifically designed for the camper in mind and are easily one of the most popular and reliable options you will come across.

Safe, economical and extremely efficient, you can be guaranteed that the Outwell fan heater will keep you toasty through the cold nights, and it is the perfect solution for off-season camping. There will be cheaper alternatives on the market, but this is the only heater out there that is specifically manufactured to suit camping environments. The Cat’s Meow by The North Face: Be Comfortable in Any Weather

November 27, 2009 BY

cats meow sleeping bag The Cat’s Meow by The North Face: Be Comfortable in Any Weather

All the cool kids use The North Face so I’m told. I thought they were mostly about jackets but apparently they make some pretty swanky camping gear as well. The Cat’s Meow is a three season mummy bag designed to keep campers comfortable in nearly all weather environments.

With a lot of positive user feedback, The Cat’s Meow is generally a winner. Using Climashield® insulation, which is light and long-lasting, the bag stays warm even when wet – and the bag is rated for temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

The shape of the bag conserves body heat. Unfortunately, the bag only has a feeble one year warranty. Some have complained that the zipper snags from time to time – but that was a minor observation picked up by the ‘No-coordination Society’ on their recent camping trip to Canada. Overall though, The Cat’s Meow is a great option to pick the next time you go camping.

MSR Reactor: Highly Rated Camping Stove

November 26, 2009 BY

msr reactor MSR Reactor: Highly Rated Camping Stove

When you’re camping and hungry, you need a reliable stove. The small (some say too small) MSR Reactor stove may be the next stove you want to take on a camping holiday. The Reactor includes an isobutene-propane burner and 1.7 liter cooking pot.

The fuel canister is unfortunately sold separately but can be packed into the included pot for portability. The efficiency of the unit cannot be denied. Even in windy conditions the radiant burner and heat exchanger boils water quickly. MSR claims the Reactor boils a liter of water in three minutes. That’s pretty impressive!

Like all things in life, though, there are some faults to the Reactor. Heat output is difficult to control and the stove only works with the included pot. This makes it harder to cook for groups. The Reactor is still a great buy and a great addition to any camping trip.

Coleman Tent Light

November 14, 2009 BY

coleman remote control tent light Coleman Tent Light

The Coleman Tent Light operates with just four AA batteries and will keep your camping trip light and bright all night long.

It attaches easily to tent poles (or pretty much any other part of your tent) thanks to a magnet and can be turned on and off at will with a simple switch. It doesn’t take up much in the way of space and is reasonably priced.

The light is fairly low, but that comes down to personal taste – some people would prefer it to be a bit brighter, but to others, the soft light it generates is exactly what you want on a camping trip. A nifty little product!
