TheCamcorder DCR-HC52 MiniDV Handycam with 40x Optical Zoom from Sony is a pretty good choice of camera, especially for those just starting out.
The MINI DV tapes are nice and easy to understand and use, for beginners, and if you have an Apple computer (which, those with taste inevitably do) the camera links up to iMovieHD with no trouble whatsoever.
Video and audio quality are both excellent and you can even record in widescreen. It’s not a camcorder at the upper end of the market, but then it’s not meant to be. What it is, is a good entry level camera for those who just want to have a bit of fun without all the bells and whistles.
