Infant Carriers Recalled Due to Fall Hazard

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) and Dorel Juvenile Group have announced a recall of several brands of Dorel Infant Car Seat/Carriers. The recall includes 447,000 car seat carriers under the Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney brands, manufactured from January 6, 2008 through April 6, 2009.
The carrier is completely safe as a car seat, according to company representatives. When it is used as an infant carrier, however, the handle may loosen and come off, posing a fall hazard to infants.
The manufacturer has received 77 reports of the handle coming loose or falling off, resulting in at least three injuries, including a head injury.
The infant carriers were sold between January 2008 through December 2009 as part of a travel system. The stroller portion of the travel system is not affected by the recall. The car seat / carrier is still safe to use as a car seat as long as it is properly installed.
Parents can contact Dorel Juvenile Group at (866) 762-3316 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit www.djgusa.com/safety_notice for a free repair kit.
